Richard Butler
1951 - 2010
Richard Arlin 'Dick' Butler, age 76, of Spiceland, passed away Monday, May 25,
2009 at his home on the hill while surrounded by his family, following
an extended illness. He was born August 28, 1932 near Haldeman in Rowan
County, Kentucky to the late John Henry and Stella (Egan) Butler.
Dick
retired from Chrysler Corporation following 30 years of service as an
electrician. He had previously been employed at Meadow Gold Dairy and
Perfect Circle. He was a veteran of the United States Army from
1952-1954 where he served in Germany building large refrigeration units.
He had been a member of Spiceland Methodist Church and recently
attended Spiceland Friends Meeting. Dick, his children, and first wife
(Patricia) were very involved in Scouting, Little League and 4-H where
he developed the electrical and the rocket programs. Dick enjoyed
visiting local grade schools, giving electrical demonstrations and
teaching Indian history. He was very interested in genealogy, Indian
history and collecting Indian artifacts. He bowled for many years in the
Chrysler Bowling League. Dick also enjoyed carving wood, building and
playing dulcimers, oil painting, horse back riding, and boating on the
Ohio River with his family.

years: Joyce (Turner) Butler; children: David (wife: Terri) Butler of
Spiceland, Debbie (husband: Doug) Searcy of Straughn, Brenda Butler of
Indianapolis, Dawn (husband: Roger) Mogg of Spiceland, Jim (wife: Pam)
Butler of Milford, OH; three stepsons: Russell Reece of Lewisville,
Scott (wife: Shirley) Reece of New Castle and Frank (wife: Amy) Reece of
Spiceland; eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings:
Naomi (husband: Phil) Jackson of Knightstown, Leatha Redmon of
Greenfield; John Butler of Knightstown, Carl (wife: Ruth) Butler of
Knightstown, Hayden (companion: Carol) Butler of Knightstown, Charlene
(husband: Paul) Jensen of Knightstown, Ray Butler of Knightstown, Shelia
(husband: Richard) Rawlins of Charlottesville, Harold (wife: Janet)
Butler of Knightstown; sisters-in-law: Sarah Brown of Spiceland, Gloria
Butler of Knightstown, Zora Edick of Indianapolis, Libby Brooks of OH;
brothers-in-law: Ed (wife: Chris) Marlow, Larry Marlow both of Arizona,
Steve (wife: Anna) Bell of Warsaw, IN; several nieces and nephews.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife:
Patricia Marie Bell in 1992; brothers: Arnold Butler, Leon Butler;
stepson: Tracy Reece; one great grandchild; mother-in-law: Mildred
Marlow; sisters-in-law: Kay Butler, Lesa Butler and Violet Butler;
brother-in-law: Eddie Redmon.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m.
Friday, May 29, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with
Pastor Sid Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery
in Knightstown. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown
American Legion. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009
at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the
Spiceland Fire Department or Henry County Hospice with envelopes
