George W. Blanton, 80, well known resident of Volga, died in a local hospital at 10:45 p.m., Thursday, June 23, after an illness of two weeks. The son of the late Sanford and Sarah Ann McKenzie Blanton, he was born in this county January 18, 1880, and had been a life long resident of the Volga community. Prior to his retirement he engaged in farming and was employed as a mail carrier. His wife, Addie Prichard Blanton preceded him in death five years ago. Surviving are three sons Charlie Blanton, Staffordsville; Charlie Blanton and George Blanton Jr. both of Volga; two daughters Mrs. Grover Blanton, Oil Springs; Mrs. Jessie Pelphery; Staffordsville; one brother Robert Blanton, Irontown and four sisters, Virgie Williams, Red Bush; Deala Lemaster, New Boston, Ohio; Bertha Trimble, Volga; Verna Butler, Paintsville. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 Sunday at home with Lonza Reed, Tommie Bailey and Jimmie Blanton all officiating ministers.
