Delmar Harrison Shields, 82, born to Harry and Bessie Caudill Shields, passed away Sept. 21, 2007, at the Fleming County Hospital. He was a retired farmer and logger, loved God, family and his many, many friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors, loved to raise a garden to give to his neighbors, and sit on the porch and wave to friends. He loved to play the banjo and sing. He was a long-time member of the Muses Mills Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Butler Shields; three daughters, Shirley (Bill) Cooper, Joyce (Ernie) Gulley and Bonnie (Jim) DeAtley; four sons, Richard (Lisa) Shields, Steve (Brenda) Shields, Jack (Joann) Shields and Rocky (Toni) Shields, all of Fleming County; six grandchildren, Patricia (Frazee) Hart, Amy (Jason) York, Dennis (Tracy) DeAtley, Jared (Kim) DeAtley and Denise (Jeremy) Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Bethany, Parker and Andrew DeAtley, Alec and Austin Hart and Jace, Adrienne and Jenna York; a brother, Raymond Shields of Mansfield, Ohio; and three sisters, Mildred Fetters, Elsie Hunt and Betty Thompson, all of Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by sons Larry, James Kenneth and Brian Shields; a daughter, Edna Pauline Shields; brothers Dewey and Jessie Shields; and a sister, Pauline Shields.

Services were Monday, with burial in in the Newman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
