Carl Richard “Richie” Shields, 49, of Flemingsburg,  passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Kenton Pointe Hospice Care of Maysville, KY, after a long illness.

 

Born on March 11, 1969, in Fleming County, he was the son of the late Delmar and Mildred Shields.

 

Richie attended the Hickory Grove Church where he made his peace with God, was baptized by nephew Jared DeAtley and Doug Reeves. He was a special young man who was loved by family and friends.

 

He is survived by his special canine friend of 15 years, Bubby; his siblings, Shirley Cooper and husband, Bill, Jack Shields and wife, Joann, Joyce Gulley, Bonnie DeAtley and husband, Jim, and Rocky Shields and wife, Toni.  In addition he is survived by his nieces and nephews, Patricia Hart, Austin (Dabney) Hart, Alec Hart, Dennis(Tracey) DeAtley ,James (Melissa) DeAtley, Denise (Jeremy) Brown, Jared(Kim) DeAtley, Amy Lynn Shields (Jason)York, Jace, Adrian and Jenna York, Andrew(Tabby) DeAtley,  Matthew DeAtley, Bethany DeAtley, Parker, Lucy and Cooper DeAtley and Anderson DeAtley. He is also survived by special family members, Brenda Helterbrand and Charlene Downing.

 

In addition to his parents Delmar and Mildred, Richie was preceded in death by his siblings, Larry, Steve, and Brian Shields; and his brother-in-law, Ernie Gulley.

 

Graveside service for family and friends will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 1, at Newman Cemetery with Bro. Charles Emmons officiating. 

 

Pallbearers include Jack Shields, Rocky Shields, Dennis DeAtley, James DeAtley, Jared DeAtley, Jeremy Brown, Andrew DeAtley, Austin Hart, and Alec Hart.  Honorary pallbearers include Bill Cooper, Jim DeAtley, and Donnie Workman.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope (909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Kentucky 41056).
