Steve Shields, 58, of Muses Mills, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 14, 2017. Born on May 16, 1958, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Delmar and Mildred Butler Shields. Steve was a logger and a farmer. He was a great musician who loved the outdoors, loving to hunt, fish and dig herbs. He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Brenda Hilterbrand; brothers, Jack (JoAnn) Shields, Rocky (Toni) Shields, and Richard (Charlene) Shields; sisters, Shirley (Bill) Cooper, Joyce Gulley, and Bonnie (Jim) DeAtley. He is also survived by his nieces, Patricia Hart, Denise Brown, Amy York; and nephews, Dennis, James, and Jared DeAtley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and Brian Shields; and brother-in-law, Ernie Gulley. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Muses Mills Christian Church with Bro. Doug Reeves and Bro. Jim DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery. Pallbearers include James DeAtley, Jared DeAtley, Andrew DeAtley, Jeremy Brown, Bobby Taylor, Austin Hart, Alec Hart, and Billy Joe Denton. Honorary pallbearers include Dennis DeAtley, Bill Cooper, and Dave Hughes. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.
