William Baldwin 'Bill' Sloan, Jr., age 93, of US 60 East, Morehead, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at his home. Born April 16, 1923, in Morehead, he was a son of the late William B. Sloan, Sr. and Rosa Belle Coldiron Sloan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Julia Evelyn 'Judy' Hall Sloan, on August 25, 2014; two sisters, George Ann Sloan Roseberry, and Pearl Francis Sloan Sparks; and three brothers, Charlie, Thomas, and Robert Sloan. He is survived by his five children, William Keith Sloan (Elizabeth) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rosemary Sloan of Olive Hill, David W. Sloan of Newport, Oregon, Ronald Gene Sloan of Morehead, and Mona Rae Sloan of Morehead; one sister, Ethel Thomas of Muncie, Indiana; two grandchildren, Sarah Sloan Krug (Billy) and Anthony Stubbs (Theresa), all of Florida; and special family friends, Patricia Smith Rohloff and Susie Hargett. William was a veteran of World War II. He served three years in the U. S. Army and 20 years in the U. S. Air Force retiring in 1968. He was a U. S. Postal Service employee and later worked at Morehead State University as postmaster. He loved the outdoors, raising large gardens, walking his beloved dogs, picking berries, wandering the hill sides, and hunting. William was a lifelong Republican, as was his wife, and both were very active politically. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Evans Cemetery on Cranston Road with Brother Allen Hall officiating. Military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. The Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bianca Wheeler, Ryan Morgan, Josh DeHart, Billy Krug and Anthony Stubbs. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
