Mrs. Laura Pelphrey, 87, well-known resident of Staffordsville, died Tuesday afternoon, May 19, at her home following an illness of one year. The daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Kimler Sturgill, she was born in this county March 1, 1872, and had been a lifelong resident of the Staffordsville community. Her first marriage was to Alex Blanton who preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to Amos Pelphrey, who died September 1956. Survivors include five sons, George and Leck Blanton, both of Portsmouth, Ohio; Fred, Brooks and Vol Pelphrey, all of Staffordsville; two daughters, Donnie Tackett, Staffordsville, and Grace Dunlap, Detroit, Michigan. She is also survived by two sisters, Beechie Howard, Bolts Fork, and Winnie Frazier, Ashland. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m., from the United Baptist Church at Staffordsville with Lonza Reed, Lloyd Williams, Tommie Bailey and John Pelphrey as officiating ministers. Burial was in the family cemetery at Staffordsville.
