The Elwood Call-Leader, p. 1, Wednesday, April 21, 1937 ELWOOD WOMAN EXPIRES TODAY Mrs. Arminta Stephens, 226 North Eight St., Dies 1:30 o'Clock This Afternoon. Mrs. Arminta Stephens, 46, widow of Robert Stephens, residing at 226 North Eight street, died at the Mercy hospital at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon. She had been in failing health for some time and submitted to a major operation about a week ago. She made a brave but futile fight to regain her health and the end came this afternoon. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson, she was born in Kentucky August 31, 1891. Her husband was killed when struck by a Nickel Plate train at the west edge of the city last June 27. Mrs. Stephens enjoyed a wide acquaintance. She was a member of the Daughters of America. Leaves One Daughter. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William Childers, of near Hobbs; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Hamm, Mrs. Minnie Gregory and Mrs. Elizabeth Hamm, all of Kentucky, and two brothers, Thomas and Edward Thompson, both of Kentucky. There are five grandchildren. The body was removed to the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. Robert W. Sage, in charge. Burial will be made in the city cemetery.
