Charles Verlon Thompson

1937-2006

MOREHEAD - Charles Verlon Thompson, age 69, of Campbell Branch, Morehead, passed away September 1, 2006, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1937, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Charlie Patrick Thompson and Maude Reeder Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Bolen Thompson; three sons, Steve Thompson, Billy Thompson, and Sam Thompson, all of Morehead; two daughters, Robin Hopkins of Frankfort, and Dena Thompson of Augusta, Maine; one stepson, Ricky Sexton of Willard, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Slone of Willard, Ohio; two brothers, Milton Thompson of Shiloh, Ohio and Clifton Thompson of Ashland, Ohio; two sisters, Georgia May and Maxine May, both of Morehead; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Army and Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and was a former construction worker at Morehead State University.

Funeral services were conducted 10:30 a.m. Sunday, September 3, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Riggs officiating; burial was in Masters Cemetery with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers were Sgt. Jeremy Morrow, Spc. Kyle Mathes, Stephen Thompson, Eric Hopkins, Chris Jones, Jeff McClain, Eddie Warren, and Jeremy Sloan. Visitation was Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
