Jack L. Thompson, 78, of Morehead, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015, at his farm in Elliott County.

Born May 10, 1937, in Carter County, he was the son of the late James and Carrie Fultz Thompson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Ray Walters and Zelma and Bill Furnish; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse L. and Judy Thompson, and his beloved daughter, Teresa Thompson Mason, who passed January 8, 2014.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jo Mynhier Thompson; three sons, J. R. Thompson and wife Angie and Lowell Thompson and wife Caryn, all of Morehead, and Brian Thompson of Vero Beach, Florida; son-in-law, Dan Mason of Morehead; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Spencer and Ben Cothern of Shalimar, Florida; special friends, Eddie and Angie Fultz of Elliott County; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful Dalmatians, Barbie and Scarlette.

Jack, a well-known businessman and community leader, owned Thompson Glass for several years and founded Thompson Tractor in 1976, which he has owned and operated for the past 39 years. He was a very active member of the Jaycee's, a former President, and a Trustee since 1977. Always interested in politics, he served as the Rowan County Campaign Chairman for Wendell Ford in his gubernatorial race. Jack loved his family, his beloved Dalmatians, hunting, fishing, and his farm in Elliott County.

A celebration of life will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Ison officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Anthony Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Brett Thompson, Wesley Mason, Chris Furnish, John Hern, Mike Walters, Chuck Ferguson, Brent Furnish, and Chuck Sturgill.

Honorary Pallbearers: Jack's many loyal and dedicated customers through the years.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
