Melinda "Shirley" Blanton Hines, age 87 of Piketon, Ohio passed away at 9:55 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at Pike Community Hospital. She was born 26 Oct 1914 in Paintsville, Johnson Co. KY., daughter of the late Charley & Rose Edna Tackett Blanton. On 6 Dec 1930, Shirley was joined in marriage with her husband, Harmon "Jim" Hines who preceded her in death on 5 Sept 1982. She was a housewife. Survivors include one son, Gerald Hines, of Piketon; one daugter, Juanita Foster, of Waverly;
three grandchildren, Kathy M. Weller, Terry A. Bradley and Sheila H. Bradley; six great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie (Ray) Knouff of Columbus. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Kerry C. Bradley; two sisters, Merlie Hartley and Beulah Blanton; and four brothers, Golden, Elva, Benny and Beul Blanton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6 at the Howe-Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home, in Piketon, with Dr. R.L. Sayre officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
