KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind.--Mitchell D. Porter, 93, of Knightstown, passed away Friday, July 20,2012, at his residence. He was born March 29,1919, in Fairview, Kan., the son of Omer and Alma (Brammer) Porter. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1981 after 35 years of service. He owned and operated a saw sharpening business in his home for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 152, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was active in the honor guard. He attended Faith Chapel Church in Knightstown. He loved fishing and photography. He was a devoted family man and also loved his community. Survivors include his son, Ray (wife, Rebecca) Porter of Anderson; daughters, Kathy (husband, Cecil) Powell of Arlington and Jeanine (Porter) McCullers of Knightstown; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Harvey of Anderson, Mayola (husband, Wilbur) Mitchell of Anderson and Viola Schaeffer of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred Pauline (Hamilton) Porter to whom he was married 62 1/2 years; a daughter: Vickie McKinney; and two brothers, Woodrow and Willard Porter. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 152.
