A long time Knightstown resident, Harley C. Purtee, 85, died Friday, April 11 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born September 28, 1917 in Wilmington, Ohio, a son of the late Roy and Lilly (Ersel) Purtee.

Mr. Purtee was a self-employed carpenter retiring in 1994. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Ogden United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lelah (Brammer) Purtee of Knightstown; two sons, Dan (wife Mary Jo) Purtee of Knightstown, and David (wife Midge) Purtee of North Muskegon, Mich.; one daughter, Sharon (husband Kenneth) Miller of Knightstown; five grandchildren, William, James, Melissa, Megan and Matthew Purtee; two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Jessica Purtee; one sister, Ella Clevenger of New Vienna, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Purtee and two sisters, Mildred Copas and Mary Quigley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Alan McCraine officiating.

Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with graveside military rites.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service.
