George Earl Gooding, 89, of Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday at 12:01 a.m. at St. Clare Medical Center in Crawfordsville.

Mr. Gooding was born in Fountain County on July 15, 1921. He was the son of George Wm. Gooding and Viola (Allen) Gooding.

He is a graduate of Wallace High School. He married Esther L. Allen on May 25, 1947. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2007. He served as a Crew Chief and airplane Mechanic in the Army Air Corp during World War II reaching the rank of Sargent. He worked for 16 years at Mid States Wire and Steel and operated and co-owned with his wife 'Gooding's Fruit and Produce' Stand in Crawfordsville.

He was a member of Phanuel Lutheran Church in Wallace.

He is survived by two sons, David (Roberta) Gooding of Elkhart and Dennis (Beth) Gooding of Crawfordsville; one brother, Russell Gooding of Wallace; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Gooding in 2003; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Gooding in 2010.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd., in Waynetown. Burial will be at Wallace Lutheran Cemetery in Wallace.
