Rebecca White Carter, age 72, of Christy Creek Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born March 29, 1941, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Ray Lee and Ethel Mae Hall White. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Fortune White and R. Victor White; one sister, Ruth Smith; and mother- and father-in-law, Lydia and Bill Carter. Becky is survived by her husband, Rowan County Sheriff Jack Carter, whom she married August 26, 1961; one son, Joe Carter and wife Amy of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Sally Dettwiller and husband Ed of Greenfield, Ohio, and Sandy Eldridge and husband Randy of Morehead, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Caralyne Carter, Hannah and Jake Eldridge, and Maggie, Molly, and Emily Dettwiller; and one great grandson, Carter Waltz. Other survivors include her brother, Harold and Barb White of Morehead, Kentucky; sister, Aileen Moore of Vanceburg, Kentucky; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Lois Anne and Jack Holley and Lyda White, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Roger and Carol Carter of West Liberty, Kentucky; nieces and nephews; extended family members; and friends. Becky was a 1960 graduate of University Breckinridge School and attended Morehead State University. A devoted wife and mother, Becky entered the work force after her children left home and served as Deputy Clerk in the Sheriff's Office for more than twenty years. She also loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, cooking favorite dishes, and entertaining family and friends. Many referred to her as the "unsung hero" since she always thought of others first. Becky was a member of the First Baptist Church and recently attended Elliottville Baptist Church in her neighborhood. A Celebration of Life will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Sturgill and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Her nephew, Ray White, and niece, Beth Stone, will provide the eulogy and family reflections. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia Foundation, American Cancer Society, or St. Claire Hospice.
