MARION: Hobern Thompson, age 87, of Marion passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. in the Marion Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on March 12, 1925 to the late George and Carrie Jane (Masters) Thompson. On April 6, 1946, Hobern married Roma F. Jurey and she preceded him in death on June 23, 2001 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

He was a member of the Calvary Bible Baptist Church and served in the U.S.Navy during WWII. Hobern farmed in Wyandot Co. for many years and retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad as an Electrician's Helper.

Surviving are three sons, James Edman (Sandy) Thompson of Marion, Oh., Keith A. (Barbara) Shumate and Dwight F. (Thelma) Shumate both of Tampa, Fl.; two daughters, Martha Jane Boyd and Dianna K. McFarlin Kavalets both of Tampa, Fl.; 18 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Hobern was preceded in death along with his parents and wife by a grandson; two brothers, and one sister.

Friends may call at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church on Monday, January 21st, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Floyd Radebaugh and Pastor Chris Braye will be officiating.
