Hager Elmon McCarty, 38, of Oil Springs, was found dead in a roadhouse on Route 23, about 2 miles west of Paintsville early Saturday. It was reported that McCarty, a veteran of World War II, went to the roadhouse on Friday evening and was found dead in bed about three o'clock the following morning. The cause of his death is unknown. Reports of an examination, conducted in a laboratory in Washington, D.C. in an effort to determine the cause of death, have not been disclosed. The victim was the son of John and Louise Coldiron McCarty of the Manila vicinity. He was born in Boyd County, but had resided at Oil Springs for the past two months. He was married in 1939 to Hazel Williams of Low Gap. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Garnett Elizabeth, Eleanor and Joan and the following brothers and sisters; Jessie McCarty, Chillicothe, Ohio; Cameron McCarty, Pound, Va. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Manila by Revs. Buel Ferguson, Lonza Reed, Wayne McCarty and Foster Rigsby. Burial was made in the family cemetery by the Paintsville Funeral Home.
