Burl McCarty, 70, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at U.K. Medical Center. Mr. McCarty was born November 17, 1927, in Johnson County, to the late Halleck and Nora Curtis McCarty. He was a miner. Surviving are his wife, Roberta Lemaster McCarty; two sons, Danny and Johnny Gene McCarty, both of Hager Hill; nine daughters, Karen Colvin and Brenda Daniels, both of Oil Springs, Emma Faye VanHoose of Denver, Lenora Bowen of Sitka, Shirley Cope of Paintsville, Debbie Collins of Staffordsville, Sheila Stapleton of Tutor Key, Jackie Copely of McMinnville, Tenn., and Janie Rowland of Sanford, Fla.; one brother, Joe McCarty of Springfield, Ohio; three sisters, Mary Ward and Maxie McCarty, both of Oil Springs, and Helen Lemaster of Plain City, Ohio; and 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 24, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Clifford Spencer, Jerry Scott and Marvin Adkins officiating. Burial was in Halleck-McCarty Cemetery at Low Gap. Serving as pallbearers his grandsons, Kevin Colvin, Kris Colvin, Jason Vanhoose, Matt McCarty, Shawn Rowland, Shane Rowland, Scott Bowen, B.J. Blanton, B.T. Branham, Jamie Lee Copely and Joshua Stapleton.
