Delmas Eugene Prater, 83, of Pleasureville, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky. Born on November 9, 1933, in Fleming County, he was a son to the late Earl Wayne and Dorothy Opal McCann Prater. He married Minnie Elizabeth Hester on November 20, 1952. Minnie preceded Delmas in death on September 7, 2015. She was 82. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Wayne Prater. Delmas was a member of the Petersville Church of Christ in Lewis County. Through his lifetime Delmas was self-employed as a logger, mechanic, farmer and dump truck owner/operator as well as being employed for a time with Watson-Shannon and Hurd. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by a daughter, Teresa (Randy) Carmichael; two sons, Anthony (Diana) Prater, and Tracy (Wilma) Prater, all of Fleming County; his grandchildren, Erin (John) Sargent, Cory (Selina) Prater, Kelsey Prater, Tracy “T” Prater, and Whitney Prater; and his great grandchildren, Ella and Conner Sargent, and Kylee, Addison and Coby Prater. He is also survived by a brother, Joe Prater of Olive Hill; and two sisters, Eula Skaggs and Linda (James) Kielman, both of Fleming County; along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Arnold Howell. Burial will follow in Martin Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834. Pallbearers include Cory Prater, Tracy “T” Prater, John Sargent, Tom Skaggs, Carl Prater, and Randall Humphries. Honorary pallbearers include Ryan Humphries and Wade Skaggs. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
