Vada Plank Estep, age 86, of Estep Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at U. K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

Born June 4, 1929, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Allie and Eliza Lovelace Plank. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dexter Monroe Estep and Jeffrey Lee Estep; one granddaughter, Rebecca Gail Estep; three grandsons, Jason Clark, Steven Pernell, and Devin Estep; one great-great granddaughter, Piper Grace Raikes; two sisters, Georgia Alene Plank Carter and Arvetta Dorcas Plank Dean; six brothers, Harold, Marvin, Vernon, Wendell, Darrell, and Ralph Plank; and two infant siblings.

Her husband of 60 years, Burnest Estep, preceded her in death on April 30, 2007.

Vada is survived three sons, Jerry Estep, Burnest Allen Estep, and Scottie Estep, all of Morehead; ten daughters, Arnetta Tackett, Lois Maher, Vickie Walling, Pamela Clark, Nancy Dillon, Hester Oakley, Fern Smith, Melissa Ritchie, and Samantha Conley, all of Morehead, and Donna Pernell of Springfield, Ohio; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include four sisters, Joyce Riddle and Phyllis Rogers, both of Fairmont, Indiana, Shirley Davis of Muncie, Indiana, and Ona Bennett of Marion, Indiana; one brother, Curtis Plank of Knoxville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Vada was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who enjoyed being a homemaker and caregiver. Vada was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed making clothes for her children and others and generously shared her beautiful handmade quilts with family and friends. Vada loved the outdoors, tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, canning, and taking care of the cemetery. She was never too busy to become a caregiver or to cook a delicious meal. She was especially known for her fried chicken. Vada was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. She will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Lloyd Dean and Brother Michael Anderson officiating; burial will follow in the Estep Cemetery on Cranston Road. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
