Nelson "Sonny" Hamm, 79, of Covington, formerly of Ludlow, died Sunday May 18, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Health Care, Fort Thomas.

He was born on February 7, 1935 in Ludlow to the late Leroy and Evelyn Schafer Hamm.

Sonny was a former lumber yard associate for Ideal Supplies in Ludlow. He was a member and former Deacon at Ludlow Baptist Church, volunteering for the Nursing Home Ministries and Van Ministry. Other memberships include, the Unity Lodge F & AM, now the Colonel Clay F & AM Lodge #109, Covington, longtime volunteer and coach for the Ludlow Athletic Club and Buffalo Club, where he coached football and baseball, volunteer for the Ludlow Elementary School and was selected as a "Hometown Hero". Sonny was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea.

He is survived by daughter, Dr. Lisa K. Hamm of Kenton Hills, son, Rick N. (Audrea) Hamm of Ludlow, grandchildren, Steven (Elizabeth) Hamm, Carmen Hamm and great granddaughter Abbigail Hamm, all of Ludlow.

Preceding him in death along with his parents were his wife, Rena Faye Bryant Hamm and sisters Carol and Jeanette Hamm.
