Richard D. Schweikhardt, 78, of Knightstown, died Feb. 2, 2009.

Born April 23, 1930 in Spiceland, he was the son of Ernest Leo and Thelma (St. Clair) Schweikhardt, both deceased. He married Emma Caudill Oct. 2, 1953; she preceded him in death Nov. 1, 1995.

Mr. Schweikhardt lived in the Spiceland area most of his life. A retired supervisor from Dana Corp. in New Castle, he was a member of Ogden United Methodist Church. He was a 1948 graduate of Spiceland High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Alaska. He had also been active in Boy Scouts of America. He supported the Purdue Boilermakers by founding the Richard D. and Emma F. Schweikhardt Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Survivors include sons, Doug (Ruth) Schweikhardt of Rush County, David Schweikhardt of East Lansing, Mich. and Carl Schweikhardt (and friend Anita Irwin) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Shawn and Ryan Schweikhardt of Rush County; and sister, Dorthy (Ralph) Stover of Spiceland.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastors Melvin Mozingo and Carolyn Stoten officiating. Burial will follow in Knightstown's Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
