Hermon Chester Kitchen, age 68, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born February 20, 1949, in Morehead, he was the son of the late Chester Vernon and Losie Mae Hamm Kitchen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Thompson, in 2003.

Hermon is survived by two sons, Mickel Chester Kitchen and Vy and Charles V. Kitchen, all of Tacoma, Washington; six grandchildren, Odom, Jacob, Joshua, Mason, Miller, and Vanessa; one brother, James Vernon Kitchen of Fishersville, Virginia; three sisters, Rita Haines of Hillsboro, Charlotte Caudill of Morehead, and Nada Rhodes of Mansfield, Ohio; extended family and friends.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Hermon retired as Staff Sergeant in 1989 after serving honorably for 20 years. He was a former dispatcher for Mayfield Moving Company in Tacoma, Washington, and retired from McLane Trucking Company out of Winchester, KY. Hermon enjoyed watching western movies, gardening, and working puzzles.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Monroe Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the Mabry Cemetery, Mabry Cemetery Road, Morehead with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
