McVEY, John Freeland, 88, husband of Doris Teater McVey for 56 years, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center. Born in Bath County, he was the son of the late John Morgan and Mary Alice Razor McVey. A WWII U.S. Army veteran, he served in the European Theater and earned 5 major medals. John was former co-owner of Continental Sewing in Eastland Shopping Center, was a member of the American Legion Post 8 for 22 years and attended the Open Door Church. He was an avid sports fan, following the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. Besides his wife, he is survived by; two children, Rosemary (Thomas) Snow and Michael (Jeannie) McVey, both of Lexington; four grandchildren, Christopher (Christina) Snow, Bryan (Kearstin) Snow, Morgan Snow and Macey McVey; a sister, Mary Olive Shrout; and many loving in-laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by; three brothers, C.W. McVey, Albert Owen McVey and Audrey Page; and two sisters, Frances Ware and Lucille Miller. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. Visitation will be 6-9 pm today (Tuesday) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorials Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Christopher and Bryan Snow, John D. McVey, Tim Mitchell, Mike Hardin and Mike Teater.
