E. Lillian Bernardi, 95, of Oxford, Alabama, formerly of Danville, Illinois and Grand Rivers, Ky., passed away at 3:14 p.m. CDT Friday, March 29, 2013, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston, Alabama.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1917 in Vermilion County to the late Jacob and Lennie Johnson Whitington. She married Robert Bernardi Sr. on May 31, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her son, Philip Bernardi Sr.; infant twin great-granddaughters; sister, Elva Blakney and brother, Bernard Whitington.

She is survived by children, Dr. Robert (Gretchen) Bernardi Jr., Carol (Robert) DeVerter and Dr. Patrick (Sandy) Bernardi; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lillian was a 1936 graduate of Henning High School and a graduate of Danville Beauty School. She was a co-owner with her husband, Robert, of the former East Side Market in Danville and the Barkley Dam Motel in Grand Rivers, Kentucky.
