From Barlow Funeral Home Joe C. Holcomb, 84, of Boston, passed away Tuesday August 12, 2014 at his residence. He was born October 28, 1929 in Garrard County, a retired assistant principle of Bullitt County Board of Education and retired from National Agricultural Statistics Service, Army Veteran of the Korean War, first head football coach of Bullitt Central High School, former head basketball coach and assistant football coach of Old Kentucky Home High School, former head basketball coach of St. Catherine College, member of National Education Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and Bryantsville Methodist Church in Bryantsville, KY. He was preceded in death by his father B.H. Holcomb and mother, Sallye Hamm Holcomb; and brother, George Holcomb. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Jean Estes Holcomb of Boston; son, Mike (Debbie) Holcomb of Jackson; two daughters, Lisa Holcomb (Bobby Joe Reiter) Peebles of New Haven, and Amy (John Peake) Tracy of Lebanon Junction; three grandchildren, Lori (Tim) Hogg, Zachary (Kelly) Peebles, and Morgan Bradley; great-grandson, Caden Hogg; and sister, Hazel (Earl) Shaw of Danville. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday August 15, 2014 at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster. Brother Ron Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be 2 – 8 pm Thursday and 9 – 11 am Friday at Barlow Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to Student Aide for University of Cumberland College or American Cancer Society.
