Dr. John Harmon Smiser, aged 64 years, died at his home on Pike Street Thursday morning at eleven o'clock after an illness of only a few days. On Wednesday, he suffered an attack of hemorrhage of the stomach, and he gradually grew worse until the end came. Deceased was born in this county in July 1838 and was a son of Darius and Louise Smith Smiser, his ancestors coming from Pennsylvania and previously from Germany. He united with the Mt. Carmel Christian Church in 1858. He received his medical education at St. Louis and married Miss Mary Ewalt, of this county, in 1869. Deceased is survived by his wife, two sons, Dr. Tod Smiser, and Earl Smiser, two daughters, Miss Mary Smiser and Mrs. D. Bradley Shawhan, another son, Dr. Hunt Smiser having died a few years ago. He also leaves two brothers, Jas. W. of this city and Samuel, of Warrensburg, MO. His half brothers and sisters by Darius Smiser's second wife, nee Hunt, are Edward of this city, Henry of Oklahoma, Hubbard, Benj. and Charles, and Mary L. Of Bates Co. MO. The funeral services will be held at the residence this morning at 10 o'clock, services being by Rev. J. J. Haley. Burial at Battle Grove.
