Ira Dailey, Jr., age 73, of Glenwood Hollow Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Junior was born June 27, 1944, in Rowan County, a son of the late Ira Dailey and Rosa Hyatt Dailey Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Joe Dailey, Vernon Paul Dailey, and Audrey Harold “Bud” Dailey, and his mother-in-law, Rosella Conn Fitzpatrick. Junior is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte “Tom” Fitzpatrick Dailey, whom he married June 4, 1970; four brothers, Estill Dailey of Statesboro, Georgia, Donnie Dailey of Springfield, Georgia, Larry Dailey of Morehead and Timmy (Linda) Dailey of Morehead; four sisters, Shirley (James) Flynn of Charlestown, Indiana, Brenda (Buck) Brown of Xenia, Ohio, Elaine (Scott) Cummins of Fleming County, and Penny (William) McGuire of Morehead. Junior had no children of his own but helped raise Cindy, Billy, Adam, Candy, Caleb, and Opie. He loved them as if they were his own. Junior was a former construction and home improvement worker. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Sharpshooter Badge (M-14), Expert Badge (M-60) and Purple Heart. Junior loved woodworking; the great outdoors; hunting, especially with his constant and loyal dog, Smokey; fishing; 4-wheeling; and visiting with his family and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers and Brother Scott Cummins officiating. Burial will follow at the Fitzpatrick Cemetery, Glenwood Hollow Road, with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers: Adam Fitzpatrick, Caleb Fitzpatrick, Bobby Rivers, Dale Davis, Timmy Davis, and Gabe Rogers. Visitation is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
