Groveton News Groveton, Trinity Co., TX 31 May 2004 Obituary of Doris Anita Doyle THOMPSON - Funeral Services for Doris Anita Doyle THOMPSON, 81, of Grapeland, Texas formerly of Friday, Texas were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004 in the First Baptist Church of Groveton with Bro. Lewis Jones and Bro. Kenneth Myers officiating. Interment followed in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery in Friday, Texas. Doris Anita Doyle THOMPSON was born July 8, 1922 in Friday, Trinity County, Texas and passed away May 18, 2004 in Grapeland, Houston County, Texas. She was preceded in death by husband of 52 years, Woodrow Venson THOMPSON and parents Nora Belle PRUITT and William DOYLE. She is survived by: Sister: Gussie Lee DOMINY of Crockett, Texas; Daughter: Patricia Ann and husband James Vernell ANDERSON of Grapeland, Texas; four Sons: James Woodrow THOMPSON and wife Mary of Angleton, Texas, Alan Venson THOMPSON and wife Mary of San Antonio, Texas, Doyle Luther THOMPSON and wife Carol of College Station, Texas; and Charles Newton THOMPSON and wife Amy of Austin, Texas. Grandchildren: James Leon ANDERSON and wife Amy of Mineola, Texas, Shelly Ann LEMONS of Huntsville, Texas, Matthew Todd THOMPSON and wife Christine of Houston, Texas, Gregory Doyle THOMPSON and wife Amy of Dallas, Texas, Tamara Jean LATHAM and husband Marshall of Kilgore, Texas, Amy RUEDE and husband Jim of San Antonio, Texas, Julie Beth THOMPSON of College STATE, Texas, Michael Venson THOMPSON of Navato, California, Casey James THOMPSON of Angleton, Texas, Lisa LORRAINE of Angleton, Texas and Everett THOMPSON of Austin, Texas. Great Granchildren: Austin ANDERSON, Riley ANDERSON, Jackson ANDERSON, Mason LEMONS, Megan THOMPSON, Cahse THOMPSON, Nathan THOMPSON, Justin THOMPSON, Madilyn LATHAM, Jonathan LATHAM, Andrea LATHAM and Wesley WINTES. Other Survivors include: Sisters-in-law: Bessie DOYLE of Trinity, Texas, Arnita HAMBRICK of Crockett, Texas, Zula MILLS and husband R. Q. of Pasadena, Texas, Roberta MILLER of Houston, Texas, Lillie Mae DUNLAP of Trinity, Texas, Maurine WILLIAMS and husband Joe of Groveton, Texas, Darlene PYLE of Groveton, Texas, Salley Faye EVANS and husband Clifton of Lovelady, Texas and Willie Mae THOMPSON of Groveton, Texas; Brother-in-law: Tom THOMPSON and wife Polly of Friday, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church, Groveton, Texas. She taught preschool Sunday School Classes in Angleton and Friday for 32 years. She also served as W.M.U. Director and Church Clerk. She was a National Flower Show Judge, a member of the American Hemerocallis Society, the organizer and charter member of the Japonica Garden Club of Friday and a charter member of the Pineywoods Heritage League (not the Trinity County Historical Commission).
