Shirley J. Johnson, age 79, of Xenia, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Greene Memorial Hospital.

She was born on February 2, 1936, in Elliott County, the daughter of Clyde and Jewell (Hammons) Hutchinson. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl G. Johnson; three brothers, LD Hutchinson, Jerry R. Hutchinson, and Nickey Hutchinson.

She is survived by her son, Darin Johnson of Xenia, Ohio; sisters, Ardene (Horace) Cooper of Xenia, Ohio, Lois (Billy) Black of Morehead, Loredia (Junior Dale) Stevens of Sandy Hook, and Patsy (Carl) Mosley of McDowell; brothers, Robert (Eula Faye) Hutchinson of West Liberty, and John Hutchinson of Beavercreek, Ohio; brother-in-law, Roger G. Johnson of Middletown, Ohio; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Hutchinson and Karen Hutchinson, both of West Liberty; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shirley was a loving mother, sister, and friend.

She will be missed by all who love her. In 1993 Shirley retired from the Xenia City Schools after teaching for 38 years. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, flowers, and needle work.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive Morehead, KY 40351. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Darris Hammons officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Bull Fork Rd., Morehead, KY.
