Ellen Blanton succumbed to a lengthy illness on Thursday, September 26, in a local hospital at the age of 85. A resident of Win, Mrs. Blanton was born August 24, 1889, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Conley Fairchild and was a member of the United Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ed Blanton, two sons, Jack Blanton of Win and Melvin Blanton of Beattyville, two daughters, Mary Cochran of Oil Springs and Addie Webb of Win; two step sons, John Blanton of Elna and Jim Blanton of Blaine, three step daughters, Alka Cantrell and Della McKenzie, both of Fuget and Ethel Curtis of Oil Springs; 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 34 step grandchildren, 84 stepgreat grandchildren, and 5 step great-great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Blanton were held Sunday, September 29 in the Low Gap United Baptist Church at Win with Reverends Lonza Reed, Arnold Reed, Tommy Bailey and Eual McKenzie officiating. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery at Win with arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Paintsville Herald Wednesday October 2, 1974
