HAM RITES SATURDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosina Frommer Ham, 87, widow of William Perry Ham, who was sheriff of Atchison Co and for many years postmaster of Atchison, will be held at 3 P M tomorrow at the Stanton & Stanton chapel. The Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the First Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot at Mr. Vernon cemetery. Six nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Ham’s death occurred yesterday afternoon at 12:50 oclock at a local hospital. She had been confined to a fracture bed for the past three years following a fall in which she suffered a broken hip.

Mrs. Ham was a greatly beloved woman and for many years was honored at Mother’s Day services at the Christian church because she was so respresentative of the ideal mother. Her late husband always said he married “the most beautiful girl in the world” and she retained her beauty and charm into advanced age.

Rosina Frommer was born March 11, 1862 in Esingen Wurttemberg, Germany, a daughter of John and Anna Frommer, the youngest of 15 children. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
When she was 18 her parents came to America and directly to Atchison because Mrs. Frommer’s brother, John Markle was a prominent citizen here. It was he who established Harmony Graden, a social center for the early German settlers and all of Atchison. The Frommer family eventually settled on an 80 acre farm in the Camp Creek community.

At the age of 22 Rosina Frommer became the bride of William Perry Ham. The groom had prepared a home for them in Atchison and it was the place of their wedding April 12, 1884.

Although her husband was a leading figure in the Republican party Mrs. Ham, who was always an individualist, was opposed to politics. She was also an ardent prohibitionist. She was a member of the original Don’t Worry club of Atchison, the Eastern Star lodge, and the Floral club.

Mrs. Ham was devoted to the activities of the First Christian church, of which she was a member, and for many years attended the Helping Hand Sunday school class.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Alfred Jacobs, Herbert Ham and Harry Ham, all of Atchison, Mrs. Roy Castle, Falls City, NE, and Bus Ham, Washinton, DC. 15 grandchildren and the same number of great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Castle arrived here this afternoon, and Bus Ham will arrive tonight.

Two children preceded her in death, Walter Ham in 1934, and Lloyd P. Ham last August.
