U.S. Veteran Ollie Clifford Gooding, 94, of Flemingsburg, passed away Monday morning September 9, 2013 at Meadowview Regional Hospital. Ollie was born March 31, 1919 to the late Lazarus and Della Thacker Gooding. Mr. Gooding was a retired farmer and had worked for the Fleming County Board of Education in the maintenance department. Ollie proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army as a Heavy Artillery Gunner in the 108th Field Artillery Battalion. He served all over Europe, stormed the beaches of Normandy and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was highly decorated with many metals including 5 Bronze Stars. Mr. Gooding was a life long member of Unity Baptist Church. He was very active in the construction of the church when it was formed on Elizaville Avenue. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva P. Gooding, a son Charles R. Gooding, his parents, brothers, Jesse Oral, and Victor Gooding and a sister Lena Strickland. Children: Margaret B. Gooding of Pleasant Hill, TN Irene Gooding of Lexington, KY Joyce Gooding of Flemingsburg, KY Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday September 14, 2013 at Boone - Nickell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 - 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by the W.N.
