Douglas W. Hamm, 87, of Danville passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2011, at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care System. He was born Nov. 12, 1923 to Hobart and Myrtle Clark Hamm. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Caralena (Mike) Dungan; his great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann Hamm; his brother, Raymond Hamm and his sisters, Hilda McDaniel and Wilda Jean Smith. He married Ella Evans. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Glen (Carol Fonner) Hamm of Sheridan and Sandy (Jim) Brown of Willow Springs; grandchildren, Michele Hamm, Doug (Tiffany) Hamm, Ella (Chad) Brown Dunn, Caralee Brown, Justin Brown and Jessica Dungan; great-grandchildren, Erin Hamm, Meagan Hamm, Mitch Hamm, Zoe Dunn and Bradyn Kirts; great-great-granddaughter, LilaRay Hamm; brother, Laverne (Betty) Hamm; Sharon Tester and many nieces and nephews. He served in the 12th Army Corps in an artillery battalion during WWII, landing at Utah Beach at Normandy. He was involved in many battles through France, Belgium, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Austria.
