Una O'Gara, 79, Hays, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. She was born Jan. 3, 1925, in rural Jefferson County to Glenn and Nellie (Brown) Hamm. She graduated form Topeka High School in 1943. She married Robert O'Gara on May 23, 1943, in Topeka. They moved to Hays in 1948. She was the secretary for Felten Middle School from 1964 to 1989. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church where she and her husband were part of the original Messiah Lutheran League. She was a member of the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League and enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gardening, sewing, cooking and making quilts for overseas distribution through the church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike O'Gara and wife Nancy, Hays, and Mark O'Gara and wife Candy, Fort Scott; a daughter, Denise Goodin, Hays; a brother, Keith Hamm, Perry; a sister, Glenna Dick, Olathe; five grandchildren, Shaina Prough and Angie Werth, Hays, Chad O'Gara, Gardner, James Goodin, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Joshua O'Gara, Fort Scott; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremiah O'Gara, and a sister, Norma June Damp. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Memorials are suggested to USD 489 Foundation to be used for Felten Middle School or the Messiah Lutheran Church Building Fund.
