Ira James "Jim" Ham, age 84, of East Main Street, Morehead, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born February 3, 1930, at Rock Fork in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Rev. Basil and Missouri Lee Blanton Ham.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers-Carl Hamm, Rev. Vestal Hamm, Rev. Versie Hamm and Alvin Hamm, and four sisters-Oval Stidom, Louella Rigdon, Viola McClurg Littleton, and Louie Littleton.

He is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.

After spending nearly 45 years in the Chicago, Illinois, area and retiring as a ma-tre d' from the Union League Club of Chicago, Jim returned to Morehead and quickly became actively involved in the community. A longtime volunteer at the Life Care Center, where he was known as a fixture, Jim spent at least six hours daily taking residents to doctors' appointments, delivering mail, helping with visits by community groups, and participating in social activities. A lifelong learner, Jim passed his GED at age 71 with an above-average score, and encouraged young and old alike to continue their education. Jim also enjoyed attending MSU sporting events, especially the Lady Eagles basketball and softball games. For his support of the teams, he was highlighted in The Trail Blazer's "Faces in the Crowd." Known as a kind and gentle person, Jim took great pride in his family. He always looked forward to annual family reunions, recalling family history, enjoying food and fellowship, and playing cornhole. Jim was of the Church of God faith. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Charley Hamm and Bro. Tommy Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Dick Stidom, Bill Hurst, Michael Hamm, Ronnie Hamm, Fred Littleton, Bruce Adkins.

Visitation is 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
