Juanita Mae Hamm, 86, of Maysville, passed away Thursday January 22, 2015 at Fleming County Hospital. She was the widow of Holman Hamm, Jr. who died September 18, 1982. Mrs. Hamm was born January 1, 1929 in Maysville to the late Goebel and Anna Mae Updike Hatfield. She retired from Reliable Store and had also worked at Wald Manufacturing, J.C. Penney and the Shoebox. Mrs. Hamm was a Kentucky Colonel and was the oldest foster parent in the state of Kentucky, caring for hundreds of children for 55 years, all of whom she loved as her own. Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Roger) Padgett, Brenda (Nolan Pugh) Hamm; 3 grandchildren, Mindy (David) Fraley Fryman, Travis (Beth) Padgett, Tina Padgett; great-grandchildren, Mylie, Eli, and Malia Padgett; Kelby, Korigan, Kylie and Kelsey Fryman, and Luke DeLong; and a sister Orpha (Homer) Hurst. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by a sister, Leona Waggoner, a brother, Clyde Hatfield, a step-brother, Harry Maddox and her step-mother, Elizabeth Browning Hatfield. Graveside funeral services for Juanita Hamm will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Maysville Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Cornette officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Brell & Son Funeral Home.
