Oudra Whitmore, of Bigson, WV, went to her heavenly home on June 18, 2010, while in Milton, FL, where she resided with family for the past 3 1/2 years. Born December 22, 1918, in Carter County, KY, she was the daughter of the late William Daniel (Dan) and Minnie A. (Kelly) Hilterband. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Harry (Cricket) Whitmore, son Tommy who died shortly after her on June 24, eight brothers and one sister. She has been a member of Gordon Union Church since she was eight and was the oldest living member of the Church and a descendant of one of the founders of the church. During her years at the Church she held several positions. She loved her flowers, enjoyed quilting, crocheting and cooking. She had a vivid imagination and a wonderful sense of humor. She was a very talented, creative and loving person that will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her. She is survived by son Charles (Mary) of Van; daughters, Diana Griffith (Tom) of Milton, FL; Judy Young (Bill) of Charleston; sister Omega Porch of Berea, OH; eight grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV, with ministers Orville Syner and Melvin Messer officiating. Burial will follow in Madison Memory Gardens, Madison, WV. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Handley Funeral home.
