Opal Hilderbrand Rayburn, age 92, of Lewis County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday evening, October 5, 2010, at her residence.

She was born May 14, 1918, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John and Bessie Henderson Hilderbrand.

Mrs. Rayburn has been a Christian for many, many years and was a member of the Globe Christian Holiness Church. She was a homemaker, loved gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Raymond Rayburn; seven brothers, Luther Hilderbrand, Laverne Hilderbrand, Archie Hilderbrand, Artis Hilderbrand, Luster Hilderbrand, Clesta Hilderbrand, and Romey Hilderbrand; and three sisters, Olive Ellison, Martha Riley, and Alma Hamm.

Opal is survived by seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Leronis and Jeanette Hilderbrand of Tallulah, Louisiana, Talmadge and Linda Rayburn, Richard Rayburn, Leroy and Tina Rayburn, Buck and Shelia Rayburn, Billy Joe and Jackie Jo Rayburn, and Greg and Charlotte Rayburn, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Lodenia and Donald Erwin of Carthage, Indiana, Irene and Frank Evans of Grayson, Kentucky, Judy K. Roark, Carolyn and Bill Perry, Pamela S. Rayburn and Barb and Bill Wilson, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; forty-two grandchildren; sixty-five great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren; one brother, Allen Hilderbrand of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and two sisters, Vesta Ellison of Knightstown, Indiana, and Bethel Loftis of Gordon, West Virginia. Opal also leaves many other family members and friends who will truly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Globe Christian Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with grandson, Brother David Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Rayburn Community Cemetery on Flat Fork Road in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010, and until the service hour Saturday at the Globe Christian Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Leronis Hilderbrand, Talmadge Rayburn, Leroy Rayburn, Buck Rayburn, Billy Joe Rayburn, and Greg Rayburn will serve as pallbearers.

Richard Rayburn and grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, is in charge of the arrangements.
