HIGHT, CHARLES TALMAGE 90, Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.). Died April 4, 2009. Born July 18, 1918 in Arkansas City, Kansas. He received a degree in physics from Iowa Wesleyan College and in meteorology from the California Institute of Technology. His commission to the Army Air Corps preceded Pearl Harbor by a matter of days. He served in North Africa, the Middle East, and Italy. He worked for the U.S. Weather Bureau in Des Moines from 1946 until 1951. He then resumed his career in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1966. Charles had a second career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Lakewood, retiring in 1981. He was an accomplished amateur photographer, Master Gardener through CSU county extension and a faithful member of his church. Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delcie Marie (Koch) Hight; daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Yohannes Kayir, Barbara and Robert Nash, Mary Speegle, and Nancy and Daren Tackis; granddaughters Alexandra and Karen Kayir, Christina Speegle and Meredith Whittingham; sons-in-love James Speegle and David Whittingham. We are thankful for his life. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10th at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 8085 E. Hampden Ave. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Charles T. Hight Memorial Fund at Christ Community Church or to the Association for Christian Teaching and Service (ACCTS).
