MAYSVILLE -- Douglas Beckett, 77, of Maple Ridge Avenue, Maysville, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Beckett was retired from Browning and had also worked for the Tom Browning Boys Club. He was a member of the First Christian Church and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid golfer and basketball fan, a member of the Laurel Oaks Golf Club and the Ringgold Lodge NO. 27 I.O.O.F and the Mason County Men’s Club.

Mr. Beckett was born in Fleming County on Dec. 15, 1930. the son of the late Otha and Myrtle Smalley Beckett.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia (Jenny) Owens Beckett; one brother, Manford (Virgie) Beckett of Lewisburg; and one sister, Wilma (Wesley) Nichols of Maysville; a special nephew, Brian Beckett; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Beckett and Pern Beckett; and one sister, Virgie Lance.

Services for Douglas Beckett will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 with Rev. Steve Lesher officiating.

Burial will be in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Beckett, Clarence Gifford, T. A. Porter, Gary Bowers, Marvin Bare, Johnny Mains and Mike Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Kinney, Dick Allen, Nick Nichols, Ken Haggard, Don Tolle and Ned Tolle.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m., until the hour of the service.
