Clester Ovel Johnson, age 95, of Hillside View Lane, Morehead, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born January 7, 1919, in Rowan County, he was the son of Robert Johnson and Amanda Caudill Johnson Hollan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Johnson Keeton and Emma Johnson Hutchinson, and a half-brother, Boone Hollan, Jr.

Ovel's devoted wife of 67 years, Pauline Redwine Johnson, passed away January 9, 2008.

He is survived by a son, Dr. James O. Johnson and wife Betty of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Jeff O. Johnson and wife Shannon of Greenville, SC, James L. Johnson and wife Heather of Spartanburg, SC, and granddaughter, Julia Segars and husband Josh of Greenville, SC. Great grandchildren are Jake, Isabelle, Grace, and Sam Johnson, Elle and Emma Grace Johnson, Anderson and Anna Marina Segars.

Mr. Johnson was a longstanding member of the Morehead First Church of God and was a retired building contractor.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ben Tackett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morehead First Church of God, 576 Sunset Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
