Dalas Veron Johnson, 76, of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on December 30, 1941 to Burley and Zella (Kegley) Johnson in Morehead, Kentucky. On March 24, 1963 he married Marlene (Hohenberger) Johnson, who resides in Defiance. Dalas worked at General Motors in Defiance for over 39 years, and was a member of UAW #211. He drilled wells, worked at Indiana Briquetting, and built houses. He enjoyed woodworking and building or fixing anything with his hands, and was also involved in farming. Dalas was a very hard worker and a devoted family man. He will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. Dalas is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marlene Johnson of Defiance, sons, Richard (Christina) Johnson of Ayersville, Ross (Frankie) Johnson of Napoleon, daughters, Regina (Rick) Vancleve of Defiance, and Rita Johnson (Darren Nash) of Dayton, 8 grandchildren; Jared Johnson, Devon Johnson, Dominic Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, Jordyn Vancleve, Angel Vancleve, Zak Vancleve, and Helen Vancleve, and siblings; Donald (Ina) Johnson of Kentucky, Carroll (Ron) Shroyer of Mesa, AZ, and Shirley (Bob) Hughes of West Liberty, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Susan Johnson, Hildreth Black, Vickie Kemp, Vonetta Hart, Millie Black, and brothers Sam Johnson and Lee Johnson. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Deb Miller officiating. Additional visitation will follow the service until 6:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
