Elbert Dawson Johnson, longtime Muncie resident, died Monday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Morehead, Ky., and attended Rowan County High School there before moving to Muncie in 1947. He worked for 27 years with Warner Gear Division (now Borg-Warner Automotive, Transmission Systems), retiring in 1974. He was an Army Air Force veteran or World War II and a member of American Legion Post 19 and United Auto Workers Local 287. He attended Christian and Misionary Alliance Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Howe Johnson; two brothers, Allie Johnson of Montpelier and Clinton Johnson of Morehead; three sisters, Carrie Mae Brady, Muncie, Anna Weaver, Muncie, and Ada Stanley, Morehead; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvan and Sam, and a sister, Odell Johnson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery, northwest of Yorktown.
