James L. 'Brother Jim' Kerns, Sr., age 80, of Mellwood Lane, Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

He was born November 22, 1935, in Nicholas County, a son of J. Neal Kerns and Anna F. Garrett Kerns. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father - and mother-in-law, Rev. Vestal and Gracie Hamm; brothers, Robert and Clyde Kerns, and grandson, Chase Rogers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Hamm Kerns; his children, Linda Rogers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; James L., Jr. (Norma) Kerns of Cincinnati, Gary Kerns of Richmond, and Lisa (David) Reichelderfer of Circleville, Ohio; grandchildren, Travis Kerns, Alexandra (Brandon Hoover) Reichelderfer, Jamie (Jenna) Boots and Josh (Teresa) Reichelderfer; and great-grandchildren, Lily Rogers, Christian Bowling, Christian Reichelderfer, Chloe Reichelderfer and Carter Crawford.

He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald Kerns of Mayfield and David Kerns of Ft. Myers, Florida; two sisters, Betty Bussell of Paris and Carolyn Murry of Jamestown, Ohio; special aunt, Dolly Dixon; Darlene Kerns; nieces and nephews; his church family; and many dear friends.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator after working twenty years at Shannon Hurd in Flemingsburg and enjoyed gardening and woodworking, his family and friends, and all church activities. Brother Jim was a devout Christian and member of Wallingford Christian Church where he was a deacon and taught the adult Sunday school class for 18 years. He also loved his precious family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Tom Redmon, Bro. Scott Cummings, and Bro. Charley Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Clint Hamm, Jr., Jamie Boots, Tommy Dewayne Hamm, Mike Mattox, Brandon Hamm, Travis Kerns, Josh Reichelderfer, and Lance Emery.

Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
