James A. Pendland, 87, of 2004 Main St., died yesterday morning at St. John's Hospital. He had lived here since 1919 and was employed for 27 years with the New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1946. Mr. Pendland was a member of the South Meridian Church of God.

Mr. Pendland was born Feb. 18, 1875, Carter Co., Ky., a son of Alexander and June Rayborn Pendland.

He came to Anderson from Hoopston, Ill., where he lived for a brief time.

Survivors include the widow Clara May; two sons, Ora L. of Anderson, and Clyde E. Pendland of Columbia, S.C.; one grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Susan Ray of Toledo, Ohio.

Final rites will be at 1 o'clock at Baker Brother's Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Hart, of South Meridian Church of God, will officiate.

Interment will be in the East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
