Arnold, Lawyer and Clergyman, was born February 10, 1828 inCovington, Kentucky, and is the son of James G. and Margaret (Dalton)Arnold. His grandfather, and some other members of his family, weredistinguished Baptist preachers in Virginia. His father was one of the mostuseful and successful businessmen who ever flourished in Covington, andwas, in fact, one of the founders of that city; he built the firstChristian Church ever erected there; made some large donations to KentuckyUniversity, and various other institutions; and died in Covington at thegreat age of eighty-four years.Thomas N. Arnold graduated at Bethany College, Virginia, in 1847; attended lawlectures at Lexington; graduated in the Law School at Louisville in 1852;and practiced his profession for several years in Covington. In 1856, heentered the ministry of the Christian or Disciples' Church, and has beenpastor of Churches in Covington, Frankfort, Lexington, Louisville,Kentucky, and Richmond, Virginia; his Church in Louisville probably beingthe largest of this denomination in the world; and his present charge, inMidway, is one of the most flourishing churches in the State. He is one ofthe most active, earnest and enterprising workers, and one of the mostsuccessful, able, and valuable ministers, in his church. Mr. Arnold wasmarried in 1853 to Miss M. Frances Pugh, of Bourbon County, daughter ofGustavus Pugh, and granddaughter of Col. Joseph Cantrill. They have sevenchildren.
