MRS. ALICE M. HAMM, 1640 Fifth street, passed away at her home at 8:35 p. m. Saturday after a lingering illness of infirmities. She had been failing more rapidly since Oct. 14. In September she was able to go to Pittsburgh to visit with nephews for a month.

MRS. HAMM, better known to her legion of friends as 'Grandma' HAMM, was born Nov. 17, 1858, near Grayson; a daughter of JAMES and POLLY WILLIS CLARK. She married May 8, 1891, to FIELDING B. HAMM, who passed away May 25, 1913. MRS. HAMM was reared on a farm near Grayson and spent her early married life in Rowan county near Morehead. She was the last of a family of eight children.

Surviving are two stepsons, GRANT, with whom she had made her home since her husband's death, and GEORGE HAMM, 1524 11th street. Other relatives are nieces and nephews.

MRS. HAMM came to Portsmouth in 1917. She united with the Christian church early in life and here transferred to Grandview Avenue Christian church, now Central Christian church.

The body is at the Windel-Howland funeral home.
